Carissa Moore on What Professional Surfing is Really Like

“Do you want to go to prom, or do you want to qualify for the World Tour?” That’s a question 99.9% of the surfing world could never relate to, but to Carissa Moore it was a simple fact of life, growing up with the dream of being the best in the world. By the time she was 18 years old, she’d faced more criticism of her body than her surfing, and here she opens up about how that pressure created self-doubt. So how’d she climb out of it all and get back to being the best female surfer on the planet? How do the other ladies on tour handle that same pressure? In short, what’s it like to be Carissa Moore? What does it really mean when people say Carissa surfs “like a guy?”
Those are the question’s answered in ESPN W’s short film about the 2-time World Champ. Directed by the Mundo Sisters as a part of the What Makes Us series, this is a great look at how and why Carissa Moore is so special. She just wants to make a positive impact on all those other talented girls who are going to have to face that prom vs the World Tour debate someday.
